Due to changes in society, courts and insurance guidelines, our insurance company has gotten away from allowing people to use their personal insurance for liability.
There are all types short term, affordable policies available that were not available when our insurance company made the exceptions.
Also, personal insurance companies (tenants, home, etc…) have been advising they won't pickup the exposure so it has forced people to purchase a separate commercial policy to cover the risk.
Any person or organization that is setting up as a business should really have a commercial liability policy to make sure they are insured correctly, even if they are small and only do a few events a year.
They may not think the insurance is worth the value but with lawsuits becoming more frequent and larger it is worth the money to have the correct insurance policy.
This individual should start with their existing insurance broker/agent and see what they can provide them.
Every insured is different and premiums/coverage are based on their risk. Low risk ventures will pay less than high risk ventures.
(If they have no luck have them give our office a call (email) and we can see what we can do to help them.) bmccartney@lawbrokers.com
