CRITERIA FOR THE HANDMADE QUILTING COMPETITION
Size:
1. Minimum of 324" measured on the perimeter.
Colour:
1. The quilt should have a well planned colour scheme.
Design:
1. The overall appearance for the design of the quilt top should be appealing.
2. The design should be related to the use of the quilt.
3. The colour of the lining should be in proportion to the size of the quilt.
Material:
1. Fabrics and threads of similar quality should be used.
2. Good quality of materials should be durable and able to stand washing.
3. The colour of the lining should be a repeat of the dominant colour of the quilt top or one that contrasts.
Workmanship:
1. Quilting stitches should be uniform, knots obscure and no obvious pattern marks.
2. Pieces should be accurately stitched and joined.
3. The binding should be neat and even.
4. If back is pieces, it should have a centre panel and two side panels. RATHER THAN two panels with centre seam.
ANNUAL MACHINE QUILITED QUILT
Rules are the same as for hand quilted quit.
EXCEPT FOR:
The Quilt must NOT be quilted using a long arm machine and must have visible machine quilting. Minimum of 324" measured on the perimeter. A GRAND PRIZE will be awarded and the exhibitor will retain ownership of quilt
CRITERIA FOR THE MACHINE QUILTING COMPETITION
Machine quilts are judged by the same construction criteria as Hand Quilts. They are judged on evenness of stitches. Pattern of the quilting should complement the design of the fabric.
There are two methods of machine quilting:
FREE MOTION: quilting enables one to construct carved designs consisting of loops and circular stitches.
STIPPLE: quilting is machine quilting that includes a meandering line achieve by sewing small circular loops that do not cross over each, similar to a puzzle piece.
Scoring Points:
General Appearance and Design - 25 points.
Colour and Material - 20 points
Workmanship - 55 points.
Total Points: 100 points.
